Re: NTSC or PAL

Hi all

I have a project which a freind in the USA wants in Quicktime format. What I was wondering, as it is going to be played on a MAC, does it really matter whether it is in NTSC or PAL format. I am under the assumption that the two formats are only relevantfor Video & DVD. Please put me right if I am barking up the wrong tree.

The same goes for frame rate. All my editing is done in PAL DV at 25fps. Sending it to my friend do I need to change the frame rate to 29.97fps as well as NTSC or does it not matter.

It would save having to do a one off in NTSC while all the rest will be done in PAL.

Cheers

Either PAL or NTSC should run fine on either a Mac or PC. A tree you didn't bark up (sorry, my silly sense of humor) is the one called gamma. The settings are different enough on the Mac verses the PC platform to make video and other graphic work done on one appear either somewhat washed out or overly dark on the other depending which one you doing the editing/viewing on.

By default the Mac gamma default setting is 1.72, while on the PC platform the gamma is 2.5. No, not the gamma reference settings in Vegas, that's on another scale. The quick way is just take an average so it looks good on both platforms. However doing that, you do run into the above problem. Really depends on how fussy you want to be. Another issue is color tempature, again PC and Mac monitors are a little different.
