Re-Rendering Mpeg 2s

I recently rendered 2 hours of concert footage to Mpeg files. I used the Magic Bullet "War Epic Light" plug-in and ended up spending 80+ hours in rendering time. Argh.
Anyway, I realized that I definitely need to further edit it down about 30% less, while maintaining the highest video & audio quality. I also need to visually brighten it up a bit.
I opened a new project, placed the 2 Mpegs (pts 1 & 2) back in and replaced the audio with some 48/16 wavs that I had pre-rendered. I'm hoping to use the Sony "Levels" plugin at the "Brighten" setting to lighten things up.
That's how I have it set up now. My plan is to group the Mpegs and the audio, and slice out 1 out of every three tunes (total time is currently just over 2 hours), and render it all as one new Mpeg 2, for authoring to DVD.
Any advice as to what settings to use when I re-render, so that I can avoid degrading the video quality further?
Thanks!
