Re: Split event when in slow motion

Ok I've probably overlooked a setting somewhere but not sure what.

I have an event which I have set to 50% velocity. About 2/3 in (judged by eye not exact) I split it to insert another event and move the remainder down the timeline to the end of the new event I expected the remainder to continue from where the first 2/3 ended but it doesn't - how do I make this happen?

Cheers

If you change the speed of an event it will naturally occupy more or less timespace in playback, but that might not show up on the timeline. So if you change something on the timeline it may not come out accurately vis a vis playback time.

I appreciate what you're saying but I would still expect an event that has been slowed down, extended so that all the event still plays over a longer period to still be continguous when split as if there were no velocity changes.

This doesn't really solve the possible software/programming problem inherent in your question, but it is a solution... Render the slo-mo clip first, then split that.

Maverick,
I've tried to reproduce your problem. I tried both to Ctrl-drag the event and with Velocity envelope. It the latter case I manually pulled the event out to fill the timeline as much as it actually plays. Then I split it, and pulled the last part down the timeline a bit. In both cases it worked perfectly. Both sides of the split retain their playback setting and starts-stops at the right places.

Oh dear

I've tried several times to get that result with different events but no luck - is there a setting somewhere I have overlooked?

Please confirm that you have set a steady velocity value for the entire event and that you have stretched the event to fill the same amount of time on the timeline as it does on playback.
If these checks are OK, I don't know what to suggest, other than start thinking about how you can upload a .veg file or something for us to look at.

I may have misled you slightly as I have tried another event within the same file and it was OK.

Something that I have noticed is that I extended the left side of the event for a change to make sure the the little V shape was there which it was but what I did see was that as I moved the left side back to it's original position (when the V is) the V moved, too. The final position wher the left edge is the same as the V is not the position the V was before I dragged. Does this make sense? Does this help.

I have noticed that this happens with some other events, too.

Also, what is happening when the event is split is the new section has a V 72 frames into it so it appears to play the last 72 frames of the original event then starts at the beginning of th event.

Yes, I have checked everything as stated in the previous post.

I am personally not very comfortable with the velocity "thing". There are elements I understand and elements I just accept because I know that when I do this, that happens. One thing I'm very careful with is moving or pulling the left side of an event.
If you can do what you set out to do with an event on which you have not touched the left edge, and it works, I'd say go for it. Then you could save your result, and only then you could try to have a go at the left edge.

Actually, the only reason I tried moving the LHS was to find out where the V (is there a name for this point) was.

How did you set the velocity to begin with?
Are you absolutely sure you're not messing with the Ctrl while dragging your events/edges. That would explain your results.
Ctrl-drag the edge makes the event play at a different speed. Just drag makes it last longer, but at the original speed (meaning it plays more of the original event if there is more, loops if there isn't).

Sorry, haven't CTRL-Dragged but just added Vel Env. The event does have a cookie cutter active but unchecking this or even removing it makes no difference.

Strange thing is that if I delete the evnt and drag a new version from the media pool the same thing happens but not on all tracks.

It also happens to some other events but not on all tracks.

Later this evening I'll see exactly what trcks it happens on and with what events and see if there is a common denominator. I'll report back for further advice and help if needed.

Thanks
