Suddenly my entire system seems to be ruuning slow...
I have just installed Yahoo! messenger - could this possibly be tyhe cause.

I have w2k and notice in Task Manager - System Processes there is an item 'System Idle Process' that has a figure of around 97-99 most of the time under CPU. I don't have lot of knowledge in this area.

Can someone please shed some light for me.

Cheers

An edit system should only be an edit system. I use one computer for internet and one for editing. That is my opinion. Maybe it is slowing it down.

The system idle process is the process that runs when your system has nothing else to do. It's normal to see it consume CPU time when your system isn't doing anything else.

If the problem happened after installing Yahoo! then I'd try removing that and see if it reverts to its former behavior.

Out of interest, after a reboot all is fine. I don't think it can be Yahoo! messenger as that is running now and CPU is down to 1%.

Ther is another program I installed and ran earlier and I think it must be that - it has to go;-)

Actually I've noticed similar lately, though mine appears to be directly related to Vegas. After editing for awhile seems to slow down. After using Vegas, even after closing vegas, the system still lags. Only a reboot seems to bring me back up to speed. It's as if it's not releasing the memory even after its closed, but yet its not appearing in the Task Manager.

I've noticed the same thing. I've noticed things since I've started using the smart smoother plugin. But, hat could be just dumb luck.

Also, I use my computer for video editing, games, game editing, audio editing, local network FTP server, and internet. No problems releated tho those (except for those stupid spyware things occationaly... try looking for those).
