You might check used prices on switchers like these:

Panasonic WJMX-12
Panasonic WJMX-50
Videonics MX-1
Videonics MX-Pro

They're more than just vertical-interval... they can do dissolves and wipes, etc. Good for club-type live switching.

Are you talking about doing VJ work like those live electronic shows in clubs and events where you switch between a live crowd and fast, psychedelic-style video loops?

There's a website devoted to this that could lead you to lots of info and people who are doing this. You could also ask the website owner your question.

http://www.audiovisualizers.com
One of their resource pages:

This field is big in Japan and Europe and a lot of the cool sofware is in Japanese. I've been playing with Rhythmic Circle Fuse lately.

I wouldn't touch a Videonics mixer, kinda funky. Newer Panasnic models with four channels are the ave55 and mx20 units. Price new around $699 and up. Frame sync. is whats going to time everything together.
Video toaster in an Amiga with three tbc cards would do it and give you graphics/CG. This would also allow for automated/prebuilt shows with all inputs/ still stores/CG/transitions doing their thing. $400-$700 used on ebay.

sb,

Here's a good VJ website with hardware reviews of switcher/mixers:
http://www.vjcentral.com

The reviews are at
http://www.vjcentral.com/list/hardware

I'm just learning about the VJ world and I've been experimenting with creating my own psychedelic loops by combining Flash, Photoshop and VV3.
