It could be that they're not properly encoded. Maybe VirtualDub would convert them to AVI for you. Then Vegas should be able to handle them.

VirtualDub reports that it cannot load the files as it reprts that Microsoft owns the rights to ASF files and support for that has been removed.

TPMGEnc also fails to load them as does S7 yet they play OK in WMP or RealPlayer

Looks like I may have to play them in WMP and use something like CamStudio to capture in realtime for editing. Is there any quality loss going down this route?
Cheers.

Ahhh. They're not Windows Media files. They're Active Streaming Format (ASF) which someone has renamed WMV.

And yes, Microsoft has pulled all permission to open ASF files in anything other than player-only software.

Thanks.

Unfortunately Cam Studio slows the playing video down so is useless. Is there another way to achieve my goal?

Thanks.

Searching other threads and Google I downlaoded VirtualDub 1.3C but that reports an error;

Illegal object fragment flags...

Cheers

What i've done in a few of these cases is to play them full screen through the TV out port of my video card into an A/V -> DV converter and recapture them in VidCap. It's not a great way to do it, but it works.
