Read only or invalid path. Please correct it. HD 9

Just installed move studio HD 9.0c on XP with SP 2.0 and can NOT create a project anywhere on C drive so I can not edit any video. I always get that error message, "Read only or invalid path. Please correct it"

I have made sure that the directories are NOT read only etc. Doesn't matter what the name of the folder is or the name of the file. I do not have any problems like this with any other software.

Any ideas ??

Also, it looks like support for Sony software costs anywhere from $30 to $150... Is this really true ? I can't call Sony and submit this question to them ?

Thanks,

This is weird... I copied an example project directory and files from the DVD and was able to work from that and save as a new project in more than one directory.

Still, it would be nice to have info on this problem for others or to find out why this happened.

Thanks,

Thanks Mark. That didn't seem to fix the create new project problem though. I wonder why ? It sure seems a likely fix and it did work for someone else evidently.

BTW, I searched for a couple of words to try and find a thread such as the one you directed me to.

At least I can "save as" and clone new projects after one is loaded so that will have to work for now.

I will check back for any other ideas and try them.

Thanks !

Strange that it didn't work. It is also listed in the KB .

Suggest to try it again (just in case there was typo or something). If it still doesn't work, you can submit a ticket to Sony support (see menu above Support>Technical Support).

Yeah, I wish it were just a typo. I even tried this with the directory that I specified where the actual project file was to go and it still gave me the same error.

So, opening a previously made .vf file and doing a "save as" works fine for now.

I even saw that suggestion in the KB. I had figured that one myself the other day.

Thanks a bunch, Mike. Maybe I'll get it to work sometime when I have more time and another idea... Or maybe someone else will have another idea.

Will check back periodically.

Why are you still running SP2 on you XP machine? I'll admit I was hesitant upgrading from SP2 to SP3 for a long time, but VMS10 requires it so I upgraded. I don't know if being on SP2 has anything to do with your problem, but maybe it's time to upgrade to SP3 even though VMS9 doesn't need it. You might have a corrupt registry entry that the upgrade may fix.

Also, do you only have one drive? If you're going to do any serious editing, a second HD is recommended. It's best not to used the C drive for editing.
