real time audio effect for events

I'm transferring over from Premiere Pro to Vegas Pro 8, and can't understand how to apply a real time audio edit (such as a high frequency roll off) to just one clip, or as Vegas calls them, one event. When I selcted the one audio event and hit the FX button, up comes an effects window, but I can't hear it having any impact on the sound. After I adjust the controls, I see no Apply button for the window, so I've just been clicking on the Close icon. Is this correct?

As far as I know clip based effects are only available for video clips. The effects button on each track applies a real time effect to everything on that track (ie you hear the effect when played back) but in order to process this effect you need to render the audio on that track to a new file.
Two welcome features in future versions of vegas would be audio clip based effects and "render in place."
Hope this is helpful

Annoying isn't it.
A work-around, right clip the event (clip) and select "Apply Non-Real Time Event Effects" Another work-around is open a copy of the event in SF and apply the process. Both ways will give you two takes of the "event" should one want to revert back or A-B the takes.
I can live with this easier than the lack of OMF import and BWF export.
