Real time Media-Why?

Sonic suggest that you use Real Time Media with Vegas 4. I did for a while
but it caused problems with Sound Forge 6, so we took it off. Is there any
reason to use Real Time Media, I got a nice FM tuner in my car and there
is not much to listen to on "commercial radio" be it in the air or on conputer
any more! (joke.....)

I'm sorry, i've been pondering your question for 14 hours now and i still can't figure out what "Real Time Media" is. Maybe i'm overlooking something obvious, but i don't know what this means in relation to Vegas.

Sorry that I left you in the air about Real Time Media, but Sonic
suggests that you need to download from the above website
their real time player, the same way they say that you need
the windows media player, to assist Vegas. I did the free
download, but was wondering what Vegas uses from the Real
Player or needs from the Real Player. By the way, Real Player is
free, but you have to give them your charge card number, e-mail them that you don't want ot join their $49 a year fee, for their "things". After you e-mail them you have to make an analog call to cancel, or it is $49 a year for life!
Happy Holidays..

Vegas also "needs" the mac player for capture...why?

Ahhh, you mean RealPlayer. When you called it "Real Time" i couldn't figure out what you were talking about.

You only need this if you plan on playing RealMedia formats. You can still render to RealMedia for RealPlayer without having RealPlayer installed. However, if you don't have RealPlayer then you won't be able to check the .rm files you produce to see if they're ok or not. Also, there is a completely free RealPlayer installation available. You don't have to give them a credit card number or any personal information at all. You do have to enter an email address, but i always type in something like aoieghiuahhiab@ugiowen5.ghuoe and it's happy enough with that.

Apple's Quicktime Player serves a similar purpose. You only need it if you are going to import or render to .mov files or use .tif still images. If you don't need to use any of those then you don't need Quicktime. If you decide you do want to use it then do a custom/complete install and make sure you include all the authoring components.
