Really Dumb Question Here

Hi All:

I have a really dumb question here, so please be patient. I've only been useing V V for a little while so I guess I either never noticed this or I accidently changed a setting unknowingly. I have several tracks of various media in my project that consists of stills, video audio, motion backgrounds and text. I had everything lined up perfectly in their cooresponding tracks such as motion bcgs behind a vertical still, overlays over video and so on. Anyway, I wanted to add a clip on a particular track between two clips that were already there and when I did, I couldn't help but notice that everything to the right of the clip I just added moved down the timeline to the right, thus causing all of my other media on tracks 2, 3 and 4 to not line up with their counterparts on track 1. Here is the dumb question, was this always the case and I was just too blind to see it. I've been working on the project for a few weeks and I can't believe that I would not have noticed this before. So now, I need to go and move all the media on the other tracks to get everything to line up again. Is there anyway to add a clip to the left of an existing clip on the timeline without everything moving to the right???

You can turn this behavior on and off:

Options -> Auto Ripple

In addition, if you put the Auto Ripple icon on your toolbar (Options -> Customize Toolbar), you will gain the option to have ALL the events ripple (move the right or left when you add or delete events), or restrict movement to just the track to which you added or from which you deleted.

On the toolbar, find the "ripple" button. Beside the button is an arrow pointing down, click that arrow and pick the bottom option (affect ALL tracks). This should solve your problem.

Thanks John, my problem is now solved. I must have accidently hit that icon on the toolbar, but I'm back in business now....Thanks.
