Really Slow Rendering?

In preparation for a large project, I've been experimenting with my Vegas 5 and DVDA2 setup. As a simple test, I am trying to render about 7 minutes of .MOV source to .AVI. It's taking about 1 1/2 hours on a Dell workstation with a 3.2G P4, 2G memory and 2 250G UDMA drives. Is this too slow? If so, what sort of defaults should I be checking?
Thanks

Rendering what kind of .mov to what kind of avi? For instance, a 120 x 70 .mov file in a Sorenson codec being upscaled to 720 x 480 uncompressed avi would easily take that long or longer.

Thanks for the reply. The .MOV is 532x299 Sorensen Video 3 (Quicktime 5). The AVI is 720x480.

Render time sounds about right then. Transcoding is never fun.

Thanks. Can't wait for the book. I feel like I using 10% of Vegas right now.

it would have been much faster if you had resized it before vegas - or at least converted it from the qt file to something else externally from vegas ..

If quality matters less to you than speed, change the rendering quality of your output.

By default, it should be either "Good" or "Best," both of which take longer (but also look better) than "Preview."

If you're looking for a short render time, select "Preview."
