Rebuilding peaks

I know this has been posted before, but I haven't moved or renamed any files (within Vegas or Windows explorer).

Now every time I open a project it goes about rebuilding the peaks!! I can get them all rebuilt, close it, and if I open it right away, guess what-it starts rebuilding the peaks again!! I have looked in the explorer windows and I have multiple .sfk files, they're everywhere.

And sometimes Vegas just crashes!

I've recaptured all the HDV in this project with the new .dll, and it keeps finding new clips to crash on, and new reasons to rebuild all the peaks. What is going on here? Replacing the old .dll just makes everything an unstable wreck, so I'm caught somewhere in between.

Sorry about the rant, probably not much I can do, just been up all night fighting this!!

Wait a second, I just canceled the building peaks at the opening of the project, because it tends to stall.

Then I opened the project again, and it never did that process again and all the peaks are there!!!

Clearly I'm doing something wrong, cause I'm pretty well exhausted...

Nope, it started this crap up again. Its trying to rebuild peaks for files that no longer exist, have been erased from the harddrive, the project media and all the .sfk junk too.
This is driving me nuts.
