Recalling Color Corrector preset names

CClub wrote on 1/19/2009, 11:15 AM
If I apply a Color Corrector preset, all that Vegas tells me when I click "Video Event FX" is that I have applied "Color Corrector." If I pull up an event that I haven't worked with in a while, is there a way to tell which preset I've applied?

While I'm on the subject of fx, if I apply video fx to events by applying it to a Project Media file, those fx don't retain if I past that event into another Veg. Is there a way to have these fx stay with an event? I'm assuming the answer is to just apply the fx directly to an event, but often I apply the fx to a large number of events from one file in the Project Media.

Nope. Ditto for all other effects.

This has been something that has been requested for some time now. Pretty big hole that needs filling.

What I personally do is whatever the effect is, look at the settings, then go through the presets and see what yields the settings you noted. It's a pain. Once you leave the effects dialog, it is not readily apparent what preset was previously used.

James, I agree it is a pretty big hole that definitely needs filling.

There's another related one for me - I have this huge collection of filter packages, many that I've gotten from others and some of my own. Wouldn't it be nice if there was a button on the Filter Packages list dialog that would let you preview the result? That way I could quickly try the ten or so that I might want to select from. As it is, because the Filter Package dialog is modal, you have to select a package, close the dialog, preview your event with the package applied, reopen the dialog, and repeat for as many as you wish to try. Whew.

1] "Man With Dog" Event

2] Apply Colour Correction, name the Preset "Man With Dog" and save it as a Preset

3] Call back that Event, from a Project, and in it and you can see what the "Man With Dog" looks like and what it's Preset name was.

You do know you CAN make complex FXs, including their presets, and save these as FX Chains and can be saved as "Filter packages" that in themselves can then be "recalled" Globally within Vegas - forever?! Once saved, they lurk in the Plug-In Manager.

Apologies if I haven't understood the question clearly enough

Grazie,
Ya got me confused (which is quite easy these days).

If I drag an fx (e.g., Color Corrector) from the Video FX tab up to an event, the fx is applied. I then close the Video Event fx window. Later, if I click on the green Event FX button on the event, the Video Event FX window re-opens, and it tells me that the Color Corrector fx is added, but it doesn't tell me which preset I applied.

For the time being, that is normal operation...not really sure if you're asking anything... :)

I guess I'm not really asking anything at this point... I was kinda just hoping that Grazie was going to prove me wrong.

Ah! Righto! - Understood.

The applied action is NOT backward-comparable. Meaning, I can't extract the information from what WAS applied to wanting to apply what I WANT to apply. I suppose, in a "lumpy" way one could keep a sample palette of Events/Stills with just THAT Preset/Chain as part of Grazie-Sampler that is stored within a "Grazie-Sampler.veg"? So at a glance on a sampler timeline I could tell?

Nope, and at present, and as Wolfie points out this is a feature that is a dream, more's the pity . .

Grazie

ps, Darn, can't prove him wrong . . .
