Recommend me a GPU

alifftudm95 wrote on 5/8/2022, 6:55 AM

I just upgraded my computer with new CPU and Mobo.

So this is my latest PC specs:

Ryzen 9 5900x CPU

RTX 2060 6GB GPU

ROG Strix X570 Mobo

Fury Hyper X 64GB RAM (4 sticks, 16GB x4)

480GB SSD

1TB HDD

I'm eying on RTX3060 due to massive amount of VRAM, up to 12GB. But idk how well VEGAS Pro will optimize with that amount of memory.

Any suggestion?

should I saved up for RTX3080 or, hold bit more for the 4 series card to came out soon or, try out diff brands like AMD card or Intel new ARC GPU card which is coming soon too.

@alifftudm95 Hi, I think this is the latest benchmark results, looking a the GPUs on there i would be tempted to go for an RX6800, If i was to post my results i would get Avg 0.14secs fps on Region 1 & 0.43 secs for render of the HD, that puts me 14th in that spreadsheet list.

PS. this is in relation to Vegas, Magix Edit Pro Premium uses my GPU to it's best, plays 4k back well & renders in a 1/3 of the time Vegas does, so depending on what GPU you buy will be whether it is for Vegas or for other things also.

PPS. it's rumoured but no confirmation yet that the RTX4000 series 'might' be released later in the yr.

With the new generation of GPUs right around the corner, maybe wait to see what those are doing... I hear both AMD and Nvidia are going all out and AMD might be packing more punch than Nvidia this time. The 30xx nvidia cards use the same NVENC chips that the 20xx do, so when encoding I wouldn't expect any differences there... perhaps next gen cards will change that.

2060 is pretty good- I would wait and see what's next, especially as GPU prices are dropping and availability is getting better. Techgage does good benchmarks when new cards come out.

I do use other software like resolve for editing. I notice 2060 is not enuf for that program. VEGAS Pro seems take slight advantage of GPU power IMO.

But since I upgrade my CPU and added another 32GB RAM, the timeline playback is much more buttery smooth in VEGAS Pro. I can easily playback 4K project at 25FPS.

Well, with all of the suggestion coming from u guys, Imma hold till the new card came out.

Resolve studio requires more VRAM than free Resolve, so if you think you'll upgrade you'll want 12GB card minimum, 3060 too weak(for Resolve), so 3080 12GB is the cheapest option

Hello, I can recommend the RTX3060 very well. I have this card and my playback of 4k 25fps 8bit is ultra smooth even in full preview quality. 10 bit doesn't work so well.

Footage comes right out of my Panasonic S5.

You can see the faster render times when you add heavy color grading on your clips. Or using LUTS on Vlog Footage. This is very Hard for the GPU while rendering.

Just processing a blank Video to export it will only use the CPU.

I have a Ryzen 7

32gb Ram

Enough HDD for multiple lifes

And a extra 256gb ssd for client projects.

And my RTX3060
