Recommendations for a slow editing PC

I have a dinosaur over here lol. It's a i7 930 2.80ghz with 24gb RAM and I have OCZ Vertex 2 SSD's for Render files and operating system/programs.

I have older HD cell phone video that plays fine in Vegas but this new S24 phone, the PC just chokes on the video, it's bad. I create proxies but that also takes a long time and I have to create a proxy for each individual file. Also Vegas is just slow over all. Is there something I can do to lessen the load of the video? Below are the specs of each video, old and new.

Do you have a GPU?

If not, get one that works with this age of system and which meets the minimum specs for the version of VEGAS you are using. If the best GPU you can get is below the recommended specs I'd just put up with proxy files and save up for a better computer. Your CPU is 14 years old. Anything from the last 5 years would give you a much better experience!

@Jarrod-Fegley you can record with S24 also in FHD30 instead of UHD60, which is the same as you did with your older cell phone. Make also sure you record in AVC and not HEVC, which is S24 default. Your PC is just not able to edit 4k videos.

Depending on your hardware skills, with a fresh application of thermal paste you should be able to clock that CPU up to 4GHz, motherboard BIOS permitting. I admire and endorse efforts to keep older systems viable. I do it myself.

But you can get a refurbished Dell 17-7700 complete system on Amazon for $200, and a really good used nVidia GPU on eBay for under $50. If you go down lower in spec, the prices drop accordingly, but IMO, that's a sweet spot for price, performance, and projected longevity.

Considering that your current system has been chugging along for over a dozen years, it may be time to put it out to pasture as a file/media server. You've gotten your money's worth from it several times over.

The joy you get the first time you boot the new one up and start your $30 Humble Bundle Vegas Pro v21 and see that it all runs orders of magnitude faster will be worth it. What price do you put on the hours you wait for the current system to perform your tasks?

Oh for sure this thing has to get replaced.
