I'm looking for a good, free, You-Tube style, video sharing site. The videos will be performance clips of a youth jazz band shot in 16:9 SD. I'd like to be able to show in true 16:9 with decent image quality as they will be promos for the performance DVD.
Nice site, but I'm afraid that the DIVX download/install requirement (for those without the DIVX web player already) will freak out some of the parents . . .
Wow,
The quality and size of the videos is very nice.
Do they encode for you if you join and upload a short piece?
Can a Mac user use this? I couldn't find much info....
You can download Dr. DivX (my preference because you can encode M2T files to DivX and stream HD content). You can find the encoder on DivX as well as compatibility with other platforms (such as Mac- which is compatible :) ).
I find the install of the webplayer no more difficult than installing a simple program (not much more to it than installing flash).

Absolutely, and I love the quality of the video! I am worried about the lowest common denominator. Though I could also upload and give a links to YouTube for the people who couldn't handle the install.
Yeah, something I did was give the option of a lower quality wmv file and a DivX file (I was offereing those plus flash at first but too much encoding for free videos).
I hosted the wmv files on my site and embedded the divx files on my site and gave them the option while trying to entice them to watch the DivX file. I don't know of any other site that is as generous with the file size (2 gigs) and streaming ability of high bitrate files plus you retain all rights to your files unlike youtube or google video.
Another cool thing is that the DivX files can be downloaded, copied to a data CD or DVD, then played back on DivX compatible DVD players. Plus you can do alternate sound tracks and subtitles.
DivX can also do HD, and unlike the current Flash formats, is so light on the CPU that I can actually play back HD DivX video on my old P3 laptop!
As cool as DivX and Stage6 is, I think that the future of Internet Video delivery lies with the upcoming H.265 Flash delivery. It should be the same or slightly better quality in an easier to swallow package. I really believed in DivX until I tried unsuccessfully to step a couple of people through the DivX install. As easy as it was, they couldn't do it.
