recompression

what trigger DVDAS3 to recompress?
I tried rendering two streams... Mainconcept video, and then wav, the second rendering try with make DVD, but it won't pass to DVDAS... I had to manually import the video and audio....
I created a start item. and one page menu, both with thumbnail image and audio track (same piece of music used in the film)
DVDAS3 wants to recompress the mpeg track 2 video.....
Is the fact to insert an image in the thumbnail triggers the recompression?
After recompression the quality of the DVD is awful.... like a VHS... it is not acceptable....I have redone this menus several times....from scratch... same recompression problem...

Another problem.... the first time I created the star menu the audio track was fine.... I could shorten the length of the audio but when i redid the menus, the audio is all chopped.... and I can't shorten the time of that audio anymore......though when I preview it , the audio is fine..... is this normal..... ?
I have been using this type of software since Videofactory.... and have used the upgrades ever since... and liked them all.... I really would like to use DVDAS3 but where do I err?

Render the audio and video separately. If you render the audio embedded in the video, DVDA will have to re-do things.

In Vegas, render the video as MPEG-2. Use one of the DVD Architect templates. Do NOT under any circumstances use any of the "default" templates. Render the audio using the Dolby Digital AC-3 template. Either the default or stereo template will work fine.

What's the best rendering option to use in VMS if I want to use the results in DVDAS? It seems that 'MainConcept MPEG2' creates an mpg that DVDAS can use directly without having to recompress it (unless you set the 'Reduce Interlace Flicker' switch in DVDAS which causes DVDAS to have to recompress the file).

And yes, I had used that interlace.... and yes once remove, there is no recompression....

Great....
