"Record Time"

Just updated to Vegas 7 from 5. There is annoying little ditty in the lower right corner of my main editing interface under the mixer: "Record Time (2 channels) 253:11:15"

In 5 I think this referred to the amount of space I had on my hard drive to record video (however it wasn't that helpful since I have two HD and it never told me which one it was referring to.) In any event, is that what I'm looking at now - video record time? (or is it audio since it refers to "2 channels") 253 mins? hours? On which drive? Which format? I have 149GB free on the 2nd partition of the first drive, 34GB on the first partition of the first drive and 138GB free on the second drive. So what is this referring to? And more importantly, how can I change/delete it (as you might have guessed I don't find it all that helpful.)

It is audio record time. Not many folks have buildings large enough to store all the hard drives necessary to record 253 hours worth of video!

Under options / preferences / general is a setting for the temporary files folder. This is where Vegas will store the audio as you're recording it. The time available will be based on the free space on the drive/partition listed there.

I don't know of any way to have Vegas not display this. But then, on the other hand, when i'm not recording audio my brain does a pretty good job of ignoring it completely.

it's not based on your vegas temp folder. I changed my temp folder in Vegas & the display never changed.

It's based on the current default path to record audio. Mine always defaults to "my documents" & when I arm an audio channel I can change it & the time display updates.
