Record to device missing from print to tape dialog

Ok, I had to reinstall Win2k, then, reinstall vv3.0 this morning because of a problem with a mouse driver that was causing glitches in VV3.0.

Now, when I go to print to tape, the little button shaped like a cam with the red dot "record to device" is nowhere to be found.

There is a drop down menu which I can pull down and choose print to tape, but the button isn't there.

How can that be?

Thanks in advance.

Are you trying to print from the Vegas timeline?

I was trying to print from capture 3.0. I can print from the timeline . . . it works fine.

For that matter, I can print from capture 3.0 if I use the drop down "TRANSPORT" menu and enable 'record to device' from there.

When I first installed VV3.0, everything I needed to capture/print was there in the row of icons in the lower left third of my screen.

Now, there is a capture button, a button that toggles between onscreen and external preview, device transport controls, and that's about it. No print to tape button to be found.

I checked the manual which describes it, shows a picture of it, says it should be there.

What's going on?

It really frosts me that everything on my system had been working fine until this stupid mouse driver wrecked things for me.

I have uninstalled and deleted that driver, so things should be back to normal.

I also uninstalled VV3.0 and re-installed it from scratch. Still no record to device button.

I run a dual boot setup (one of the ways in which I was able to isolate the mouse driver problem . . . although I don't have VV30 installed on the WinME side, I do have an installation of Studio 7 residing there, and, while my Win2k side was acting up (S7 included), S7 on the ME side worked fine.

I think I'll install VV30 on ME and see how Capture looks there.

I'm anxious to get everything back to 100%.

Thanks for the reply.

I just did a print to tape from vidcap3 and in the print to tape page/tab there isn't a button to start recording/printing to the gl1. I had to go "transport/print to tape/record to device". I looked really foolish in front of people, talking about all these great features...blah,blah...uhhh...where is the record button? As I'm writing this I checked the vidcap program and still can't find the button...It works though. Printed a 1 hour and 7 minute indie film fine.Any explanations?

I installed VV30 in WinME. Still no print to tape icon button in Capture30. Would downloading the software again correct the problem? Can I download the software again without charge if I use the code given me during the first download for activiation?

Thanks for any replies.

Never mind about that last question. I returned to the bookmarked download page to re-download using my original purchase key, and a fresh copy of the program is coming in as I type this. Hope this will clear up my little problem. C

Ok, reinstalled Win2k from a frest download of the software . . . still no 'record to device' icon in Capture 3.0.

The only thing I can think of that remains different on my machine than from a couple of days ago is that, when I reinstalled Win2k, I lost DirectX8.0, so VV30 prompted me for it before allowing me to reinstall. Instead of 8.0, I downloaded 8.1 from the MS website. Could that make a difference? On the other hand, I haven't changed DirectX on the WinME side, and I don't have the icon there, either.

Is this just me, or are others experiencing the same?

Thanks again.

Resize the application window to a larger size. The record to device button is being dropped if there's not enough horizontal space.

Where should that button be in relation to other items? I tried placing that dialog box in "multi-window" mode so that I could stretch the box in all directions to its limit. Didn't find any hidden or covered Record to Device button. I know I used that button when I first loaded the software. Can't figure out where it got to . . . not that it's crucial, but its absence bothers me.

Thanks for your reply.

It should be to the right of the Preview on Device button on the Print to Tape tab. Try maximizing the Video Capture application window.

That's where I thought it should be. Turns out that the Name/Length box was moved to the left so that the 'items to print' - 'print length' - and 'current location' box had crowded that little button right out of there.

What I don't understand is that, when I reinstalled the software, it defaulted to that button-hiding configuration.

I figured it had to be something like that. The fluidity of VV's screen layout is mostly a welcome blessing, but, sometimes things can get messed up to the point where one can't fugure out where certaim items are located.

Well, thank you for your reply. I'm feeling whole once again.
