0. If the sound card you are using to record isn't the only sound
card in your computer, go into Options/Preferences/Routing and make
sure you select "custom routing"
1. Back in the Track View - Insert/Audio Track
2. Press 'Arm for record' button on new track
3. Select the record device (the sound card the DAT is connected to)
from the device chooser next to the 'Arm for record' button
4. Press big record button on the main transport toolbar under the
Track view.

that's it. There is an updated PDF manual almost ready that has a
chapter on recording. That will help you out as well.
