recording audio

when I try to dub a video to tape I get really bad audio drop out random but almost constant it gets bad, clears up, get bad etc etc. also on the front panel I have a red lite INS ???? what does that mean I have no idea what INS is little lone know how to fix it

Do you mean, playback in Vegas and re-recording the audio to an analogue device?.. Or..
Are you digitizing from an analog source or transferring via Firewire or other?
Sorry, I'm not familiar with "INS" at all.

It would probably help us a LOT if you told us what device you are using, what you are doing with it, and how it's connected (how is the signal flowing in and out of it). Otherwise we don't really have any clue.
