Recording audio with microphone

In my project I want to record narration on a separate audio track. I click on the audio track and push the recording button on the track header. I start recording using my microphone but nothing is recorded. I am certainly missing something in this process. Could somebody give some advice please? Thanks.
After spending time on a trial and error basis I discovered that I have to push the record button sitting at the left side of the control buttons below the timeline. Thus the problem is solved. However as far as I can see nowhere in the help files the necessity to push these two buttons is mentioned. It may seem obvious yet it is not that obvious. This is a message for the documentation authors of the development team.

With any multitrack recording device or NLE you need to 'Arm' the track/s for record.

This is why you need to select the record arming button to the left of each track onto which you want to record audio.

By doing this you select which of your tracks you want to record onto, this of course may be multiple tracks if you are recording from more than one source or multiple microphones or, as in your case, a single track.

The 'Record' button under the timeline will then put the 'armed' track/s into record.

I guess there's just a lot we 'experts' need to keep in our heads to use this type of software ;-)

Hope this helps expain the process.

The help file is very specific about this.
Search for the word "record." Then follow the first in the long list of hits.
