Recording audio with Vegas

I have Vegas Video 2.0 but I think this question applies to Vegas Audio as well. I want to start building a basic audio studio based on Vegas Video 2.0. To use more audio channels simultaneously (to provide for recording 2 tracks simultaneously or having a monitor track with a special mix) do I simply need to install two or more sound cards? I've never worked with more than one sound card installed, and my only worry would be some sorts of conflicts.
Would it be best to install several of the same brand and model sound cards?

thanks everybody. Reading through the forum threads have been very helpful.

I believe you need to use a sound card that connects to an outside interface with multiple inputs and outputs, like the M-Audio Delta 1010 or the Echo Layla 24. (Is that right, people?) I, too, am interested in such a studio set-up, and these forums have been very imformative.

Warning: I hear there have been many unexplained pops and clicks with the M-Audio Delta 1010. My buddy finally chucked it and replaced it with an Echo product. Everything's fine now. FYI.

Hope that helps. Maybe an expert will jump in and give you the details. Good luck.

Cheers.

M-Audio recently released new drivers for the Delta 1010 that eliminate the static and pops under WIN 2K/WIN XP. They work great for me. Not sure about any other OS'

Sorry, gang. I didn't mean to slam another company's product -- especially one I don't own. I was only referring to my pal's recent audio troubles and the following thread:

I'm sure many M-Audio users don't have any trouble.

Don't use multiple cards UNLESS they are identical and the hardware vendor provides drivers that sync the cards together.

You are best off using a multi port card that provides the number of inputs/outpus that you need.
