recording delay

i'm getting some major latency when recording audio.
its not so much an issue when i record my first track in, but
when i'm trying to syncronyze multiple tracks, its a problem....
ex. (if i record a drum track on track 1 and then a synth on 2, my
synth recording is coming in totally out of time, even though
its in sync while recording)----in other words, once i play the
2 tracks back, they are drastically unaligned....
advice?
i have a feeling that the answer is in (adjusting the settings in preferences, audio device), but i played with this a bit and didn't
see the results....
???

Once again, you have provided absolutely no details about your sound device, drivers, OS, Vegas version, and hardware specs.

How would you expect anyone to be able to help you unless they have experience with your particular hardware and system?

What audio hardware are you using?

Are you using ASIO, wave classic or Mapper as your audio device?
