recording narration through line in

we need to record narration through line in because we are going through a mixer.
we we tried the mic input but it gives us a buzz on the final product. we recorded through line in last week and it was fine. how can i get vegas to let me record through line in

Vegas uses the sound card's mixer control panel. Double-click the little speaker icon in your taskbar tray, then click Options / Properties / Recording / OK. Select the line input and adjust the volume as necessary there.

we have already done all that, the sound can go through line in and comes out our speakers but it never goes into vegas unless we use mic in

Are you sure you're going to the "Recording" menu rather than the "Playback" menu? What you are describing is what would happen if you chose the line input under playback.
