RECORDING PQ CODES

Is it possible to record track indexes from DAT
or CD automatically via digtal input using Sound Forge 4.5?
I use the Digidesign AMIII sound card and my DAT and CD
decks support the output of index subcodes through S/PDIF.

It would be SOOOOOOOOOO much less work if I didn't have to
index all the tracks manually when doing a digital transfer
from DAT.

Yes, I know ALL about the digital audio extraction features
of CD Architect when extracting audio from CD's with PQ
code
information.

Thanks

The S/PDIF interface will transmit the start Id's, but no
software that I know of will grab them and make Track/Index
points automatically. I have the same issue with a $30,000
ProTools/MasterListCD setup. The only setup that I have
used that will make start Id's into Track Indexes is stand
alone recorders like the Marantz. I do not see why Sonic
Foundry could not simply write some code to do this for
us. I think the hardware would provide the data.

I see your point about extracting PQ from a disc. If we
only had a disc master for all of out DAT's.

I dont think SF 4.5 can pick up those DAT id's although I am using
version 4.0
We do have automatic DAT id pickup but its a function of our audio
cards - ZEFIRO ZA2's - these come with neat software that "sees" the
ids on the DAT and shoots them over to the audio workstation as part
of the SPDIF data stream - its neat. Maybe the Digidesign people have
a utility bit of software that will do the trick?
