Red Frame Solutions

I had zero problems with red frames since I switched to Windows 7 64-bit, i7-920 system. What a surprise when I opened a veg today (that I've opened literally 100's of times before) and I had about 12 events with red frames. The events are Cineform 1440 x 1080 avi's. I now realize a number of people are still struggling with this as stated http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/forums/ShowMessage.asp?ForumID=4&MessageID=694895here[/link].

I was wondering if others were interested in making a list of successful interventions. I wasn't able to get rid of the red frames (tried restarting Vegas, computer, etc.), so here's what I ended up doing:

I copied each of the offenders (i.e., red framed events), pasted them into a new veg, rendered into a new Cineform avi, and then copied/pasted back into the original veg. So far, so good.

When it happens to me I just open a new project from the current one, which pops up fast and then again open the WIP one over the new one and the WIP comes back with no red clips. This works for me every time. I must say that I haven't been getting these for a long, long time and just today it happened again too. Weird.

Paul,
When you say you "open a new project from the current one," do you mean that you open the old one and then just rename it? Then, I'm not sure what you mean when you say you "open the WIP one over the new one." What is the WIP?
John_Cline wrote on 3/15/2010, 1:29 PM
Based on the context of this thread, I'm guessing that WIP means "work in progress."

paul, are you saying that you open up a new blank project in a 2nd instance of vegas, and that when you switch back to the WIP (the 1st instance of vegas) the red frames are gone?

Paul I am also very interested in your solution and would really appreciate a run down

What I do is close the veg, open .close, open, close, open, close, etc and then wala open no red frames

I did this the other day….no luck then I realized ….o yes that’s actually a media gen red panel
John_Cline wrote on 3/16/2010, 12:07 AM
"and then wala open no red frames"

I'm going to get pedantic for a moment and address one of my pet peeves; for your future reference, the term is "Voilà." It is a French word and is pronounced "vwah-lah." You can also spell it without the accent, "voila"

John welcome back

"walla" is the sound of crowd murmur used by video editors
Normally murmurings to the tune of why o why is this still happening
Serena wrote on 3/16/2010, 1:20 AM
He might have got that from:
"ding dang walla walla bim bam"

but probably not! I guess this is yet another internet distortion of all languages.

I thought crowd murmurs were "rhubarb..rhubarb"
Rory Cooper wrote on 3/16/2010, 1:43 AM
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walla

It can also be spelt wala , as in “ we need some drone and wala” in the background

Wala is slang for murmuring and complaining and I used it as a replacement for Voila because instead of approval I was murmuring

Actually my wife is French and she does a lot of wala at home too.

Oh geez, here I go again... it's "ding dang walla walla bing bang."

Interesting to read the last posts - but what about them red frames?

(sorry, could not resist it)
Rory Cooper wrote on 3/16/2010, 2:13 AM
Quite right ritsmer the powers at be should immediately set to work so that the RED frames should be green frames as this is a lot more pleasing to the eye and calming to the soul
ritsmer wrote on 3/16/2010, 2:43 AM
Just my thoughts.
Showing them in green would immediately cure the red-frame issue.

I think I will start a whine-thread about that topic...

... like "this serious deficiency made me miss my deadline with a huge $$$ project from my biggest customer.."

... and "From now on I will only use the NLE Wala-Pro III (which can render 25 Mbps AVCHD on the double on my 10 yrs old laptop - and ..."

:- )

Yes, the "real" John is back! ;-) Red Frames, never had them until 2 months ago, usually restarting vegas and limiting tasks using help, but I think has to do more with file i/o errors like reading access errors(timing), etc. I noticed also that when "temp" file directory disk went over 70-80% full, red frames would appear. But no solid pattern could be positively identify because I did not track all file IO ,( too many tasks for this old guy).

You want red frame, I'll give you red frames.

In V9.0b put 90min MXF XDCAM file onto T/L and switch project to 32bit. All red T/L and then move playhead around a bit and crash.
Nothing wrong with the file or the i/o. I edited the same file with a few 100 cuts and FXs. Rendered several times never a problem.

At least in Ppro if a frame is currently out to lunch you get a polite message, in several languages, including French. I don't know if the French is spelt correctly though, I failed French with a high distinction.

Bob.

I believe I figured out Paul's instruction above: I opened the veg and there were several red frames on video clips. I then clicked File > New, and opened a new veg. Without making any changes, I immediately again clicked File and then went down to the bottom of the File menu options and selected the initial veg. It opened without the red frames. Very odd, but useful.

That only worked with a veg with a couple red frames. On a veg with many more red frames, I had to open a 2nd instance of Vegas, copy/paste the red frame events into the new veg, and then it rendered fine, and I imported the rendered files into the initial veg.

"walla bing bang"

Gee, I checked with the wrong website!
Paul Fierlinger wrote on 3/16/2010, 7:49 PM
Sorry for the poor wording -- I'll try again:
I open a project which turns out to have red clips, so I open a new project, using the little icon under file (CTRL+SHIFT+N), when that opens I do nothing with it and under File I select the previous project which had the red clips and this time it opens with all clips solid. It's fast and never fails me.
