Vegas Video will always have all of the features of the same version of Vegas Audio.
Vegas Audio will not be released for a few months, so expect some changes when that is released. This will include some new features, bug fixes, and the general fine-tuning you would expect from any update. Vegas Video will get an update at the same time to pick up the changes.
There will be a screamin' upgrade price for Vegas Video 3, so you might as well pick up Vegas Video 3 when that ships, and you can always get updates for free. If you absolutely positively cannot stand having the extensive video capabilities of Vegas Video, and want only the stripped down Vegas Audio, you'll have to wait iuntil Vegas Audio 3 is released.

This reflects an incredible attitude.
Some folks might actually be interested in audio
and not be interested in video -- not have a camcorder, DV card, etc. -- but have expensive audio
gear (Delta 1010) mixers and mics. The 1010 came
with Vegas Pro, which implied that Vegas was a
good or better match for serious project studios.
I am looking for a solid multi-tracking audio program.
I bought the bundled version of Vegas Pro, which added
about $100 to the cost of the 1010. I assume SF got at least some of that. I bought XF1, XF2, and XF3
for several hundred more $$$, and then upgraded to
Vegas Audio 2, for yet another $100, only to find
that it (1) bundled the effects I just paid for and
(2) was only a dumbed down version of Vegas Video.
Now, I'm supposed to want Vegas Audio 3 since it will
finally add critically needed features, and someone at SF has the nerve to remind me that staying with SF products for audio only is not bright.
Hmmmm. I didn't get that impression at all. VegasAudio has all the good
audio features that VegasVideo has. VV doesn't add any additional
audio stuff, just lots of cool video toys that you might just enjoy playing
with at some point.
One sees the donut one sees the hole. It sounded like there was going to be a nice offer to upgrade to Vegas Video and then get all the capabilities of Vegas Audio when it upgrades. I suppose if you don't want to use the Video capabilities of VV, just don't use them like you don't use them in Vegas Audio. Did you know Vegas Audio had video too?
Hope the upgrade to the new version is indeed at a killer price...ie. $49! (or better)
Easy. I don't think he intended to come off snide. He may have assumed you owned a copy of vegas video, in which case the upgrade to 3.0 would be your best choice. Otherwise, you should wait a few months for vegas audio 3.
Plus, you have to respect Sonic Foundry's position -- about to launch the next version a flagship title. They're not a big corporation, just regular, super talented, people. I think they're personal excitement about their own products is genuine, though they come off as salesmen sometimes. ;-)
I used to use vegas video for audio only, and its superior audio capability is the chief reason I continue to use it for video. I sympathise with your patience in waiting for Audio 3.0.
