reduce lingt from a clip

Hi! everybody,
Could you please tell me what are the differences when you reduce lights and brightness from a clip by pulling down opacity and using FX brighness and contrust, visually it seems same work, if I want to make little darker my clip what way is better to do so, reducing opacity or using brigtness and contrust?

If you having nothing under the track pretty much the same. Although brightness and contrast lets you control much more, to see what's really happening use the histogram scope.

You can also use the color curves filter to get even more control, effectively you can change the curve in very complex ways. BillyBoy has some excellent tutorials on how to do this on his web site. Search this forum for links.
