Reduction of Mpeg file size

I'm using Vegas Movie Studio 6.0 and need to learn how to reduce or crop an mpeg file ripped from a DVD down to a smaller file size. I want to upload only a small portion to YouTube. Can anyone help me?

Split the part you want in the timeline, and then export using the 640x480 Main Concept iPod template.
