Refreshing existing AVI events

It always worked and now it doesn't; once I have an AVI event placed into Vegas I keep changing and reworking its source (my graphics software) and each time I render out the new version it will appear refreshed when I go to Vegas. But now something I must have reset or changed has stopped that from happening. What could it be?

Are you outputting a finished video from your graphics software or are you able to just save over the AVI as the original file?

Which graphics program are you using?

Which codec is your AVI using? AVIs can be composed of any of thousands of codecs.

I'm using TVPaint and render out as a Motion-JPEG. All I do is keep animating and export to see how it now plays together with other events.

But I just discovered my error by luck:

I had "Save active prerenders on project close" checked and it should be unchecked. The wording makes no sense to me so it was hard for me to figure this one out.

Check "Close media files when not active.." option in Preferences

Interesting. My way at first worked but then stopped working so I selected altravic's solution which didn't work either but then I remembered that I can open Vegas 12 and compare to my old trusted and working for me settings, which were different in several ways, but indeed also had Close media files when not active checked and that now works. So there must have been some other settings messed up that influenced the ones I had been testing but all is well now.
Thanks, atlravic.
