I can't speak for versions past SVP v11, but renumbering is not supported in Vegas, only naming. Having said that, Timeline Tools will renumber Markers and Regions, but it does it by memorizing where all the Markers and Regions are located, deleting them, and then restoring them in the order they appear in the timeline.

Is there a link for timeline tools?

Here is an example of what I need with the first region being named D875-C-001 and thereafter sequential like below.

D875-C-001, D875-C-002, D875-C-003, etc...

I am repeatedly creating several hundred regions from long files that I can't break up and it is laborious to name each one manually.

The easiest way is to use Vegasaur.. Couple of clicks and you are done creating the regions at selected events with the names the way you want.

However, you can still do this inside of Vegas with some effort. You must first create regions for your selected events. I'm sure there are free scripts that can do this. At this point they will probably have no name. Then create your names in another app such as Excel or whatever. Then copy those names and simply paste them into the region names column. Here is a shot of the edit details window with regions show.

Clearly, the easiest way is to use Vegasaur. I believe they still offer a 30 day trial.

wwaag,

Thank you very much for your input.

I have Vegasaur and use it to add the region names as watermarks before rendering. I didn't know that I could use it to name the blank regions that I have created beforehand. I will try it.... Thanks again.

You're quite welcome. Of all the add-on's I've ever purchased over the years, Vegasaur is the tool that I use the most. There are lots of other useful features if you select the Export/Import and Tools tab. Again, glad that I could help.

wwag,

I private messaged you with my number.

The Vegasaur method is getting stuck on the first region naming only.

But, I did find that setting a macro on my keypad programmer allows me to edit the region names faster in the edit details pane - then by selecting each region on the timeline. So, that does help speed things up.

Sounds like you only selected the first event, not all of the events. I make the same mistake quite often. No email yet. If you continue to have problems, suggest you post on the CC thread since we get e-mail notification of a reply.

Jay, maybe I misunderstood you. You originally mentioned renumbering your Regions. Were you talking about changing the number assigned to Regions and Markers by Vegas, or a scheme to add numbers into the name field of a Region? Those are two totally different things.
Jay_Mitchell wrote on 11/1/2015, 4:39 PM
The solution to this was in Vegasaur > Markers.

It works perfectly to name / rename regions across the timeline...
