register mpeg 2 plugin?

Hi,
I was reading something about registering the mpeg 2 plugin. Is that still necessary? I have never been prompted for it in my software, but I read that some had to register it to get Vegas to capture hdv footage without locking up. Whenever I try to capture hdv footage....my software freezes. I can capture just fine with HDV Split, but I can't with Vegas 6.

If you have installed and registered DVDA, you don't need to register the MPEG2 separately.

Make sure that "Use external video capture application" in Options -> Preferences -> Video tab is turned OFF (unchecked).
