Reinstall of Vegas Questions

Irregular wrote on 10/4/2023, 4:05 PM

I currently have Vegas 17 installed on an external E: drive. I would like to use some extensions and software like HappyOtterScripts but the pathing seems to look specifically under the Local Disk C: Drive. Another reason I'd like to change the install location is that I've heard that running Games and Apps on an internal SSD will be quicker than an external HDD.

Can I reinstall Vegas and have two installations at the same time (one under C: drive and one under E: drive)? Would I have to uninstall my current installation and if so, which folders/files should I back up before losing any data? Is there anything I would need to manually re-create? Would plugins (cracked) convert over between Vegas installations. I read another post that said plugins are independent from Vegas' file structure. The plugins I currently have are BCC, Red Giant Universe, Sapphire, Magic Bullet Suite, and Twixtor. Do I have to modify the registry at all?

TLDR: I would like to reinstall Vegas on my Internal SSD (same pc) without losing any data, plugins, or customization. How would I go about this?

Thank you.

@Dexcon No, it is legit.

Unless you are dual- booting, I suspect you won't be able to install two instances of the same version on one machine.

I am not dual-booting. Do you know how I would go about a reinstall without losing any data, plugins, or customization?

Still looking for some clarification on how to go about this process. Thank you

Reinstalling doesn't lose data or plugins. Customizations - maybe. Newer versions let you save preferences to a file.

I think you can find layouts here: C:\Users\NAME\AppData\Roaming\VEGAS Pro\17.0

Some plugins have files they install the the main VEGAS directory C:\Program Files\VEGAS\VEGAS Pro 17.0 which you can just copy and paste over to the new one (the plugins themselves are usually in their own program files folder).

So the OFX Video Plug-ins folder would need to be manually copied over to a new Vegas installation? Right now I have Twixtor inside the OFX Video Plug-ins folder which is under my current Vegas installation on external drive. It seems that it would make sense to backup the whole Vegas directory for reference and to move stuff over if need be. I'm not sure if after uninstalling Vegas the directory will delete itself, which I am trying to clarify with Magix Support.

I'd reinstall plugins if you have any issues, though it's possible to reconstruct it manually (along with any items in appdata\roaming and local that are related to them.

The presets for plugins appear to be here: My Documents\OFX Presets and wouldn't be affected by a reinstall.
