Reinstallation problem with 8.1

I was having trouble with Spicemaster transitions rendering properly in V 8.1 so I thought I would just uninstall and re-install to see if that might fix it. Bad mistake.

Now after 3 uninstalls and re-installs of 8.1, including a full re-installation of 8.0c before the last attempt, Vegas 8.1 is really screwed up. It won't read Sony MTS files as video files so I can't open projects that contain those files (the bulk of my projects...) without an error message saying I need to replace each MTS file.
Of course, 8.0c still opens the VEG files just fine and recognizes all of the various video file types I typically have on my machine. See error message below.
