Reinstalling WIndowsXP/lose Vegas installs?

I"m considering reinstalling Windows XP on my PC, because it's just time. It's running slow. I've run adaware, spybot, have always have Norton on my system (checking once a day, not continuously) and seem to be virus and 'bot free, even ran disk check and got rid of old temp files and such. but it's still dogging me. I believe that a fresh install of Windows will help. BUT............once I do this, will I lose my Vegas (and DVD Architect and SoundForge and CD Architect and the like) installs, requiring me to reinstall them and/or re-authorize them on the Sony website? They are all paid for, on the up-and-up installs, but I don't want to start from scratch.......any comments from anybody, perhaps SonyPCH?

Thanks!.

Reinstalling: I would ditch Norton and go with Nod32 - less resource hog, much faster and more efficient.

Back up your individual patches/effects/settings etc, that you want.

Re-authorising your Sony stuff should not be a problem - Sony are cool in that respect.

If you have all the installers to hand, back them up, and it will save re-downloading them.

IF you are also wanting to back up up your windows settings (documents, and so forth), look up "file and settings and transfer wizard"

My computer tech recently did a reinstall of XP home on my secondary system when he replaced the mobo and I didn't have to reinstall any of my apps. Didn't lose a thing.

Actually just removing Norton from your system may speed things up enough so that you won't feel you have to reinstall Windows.

Norton = bad for AudioVisual workstations. Just don't use it. An outside consultant installed Norton on the video projection computer at our church. Playback frame rate dropped from 30fps down to about 3fps. Everything was jerky. Program load times went from seconds to nearly minutes. Absolute disaster. I removed Norton, installed Grisoft's AVG, and all is back to normal.

i've not had any slowdowns due specifically to Norton. We use a 'client' version of Symantec Antivirus, which is schedule to run a quick scan at startup each day, and a full scan overnight once a week, and never run a scan whilst anything else is going on.

So I may try just reinstalling a fresh copy of XP PRO on this PC and see if I have to re register the Vegas, SF and Architect programs.

I appreciate everybody's input.

If you completely reinstall XP, you will need to reinstall our apps.

Why? Because the many different data points in the registry and located in common Windows directories will be missing.

This is no big deal since you are going through an OS re-install. We will permit you to re-register if needed. The worse case is that you have used up your registration count, in that case you would have to contact our tech support to up the reg count.
