If NAB is when they release the product instead of when it is "announced" I suspect they will have it on the web at the same time.
So you should be able to play with the demo at the same time. My guess is that NAB will be when it is released and not just announced there. There's a big Vegas user group planned during NAB and you think you want to show them the big shiny new toy.
So, do you use Vegas at the same place you do online editing? Or do you use it as your personal editor.
Someone in Sony's marketing dept needs a serious talking too over how this gets handled (again!). COWs droid is spitting out pre NAB release info at a fast rate, I've got an invite to go see Pannies new P2 camera at a private showing and I'm getting press releases almost daily about what manufactureres are going to have to go look see at NAB.
And about Vegas? Nothing, yadda, zip.
It's TOO LATE guys, once again you've missed the boat, most NAB attendees have already locked in what they're interested in. Unless you've got naked women roaming NAB wiith VEGAS 6 tattooed in the right places or you've got a HUGE banner at the entrance no one oustide of this forum is going to know about Vegas, again.
Bob.
My guess is Monday the 18th. I think the California Vegas Users group said they were going to stream the Vegas classes on the 19th. If I remember right, this is how it went last year.
That's Correct. The (SCVUG) Southern California Vegas User's Group will be producing, videotaping, editing and streaming out the new SONY Vegas 6 and DVD Architect 3 Classroom Training Session Seminars from NAB.
The streaming video feeds will be available to view on Tuesday April 19th, 2005. You are welcome to go to SCVUG.com right now to learn more about this. And, there will be more details released in upcoming announcements.
The Vegas 6 and DVDA 3 upgrades will most likely be available to purchase on Monday April 18th.
No, I don't use it at work, but heard about it from a co-worker who uses it at home. I currently only do linear on-line at work, but wil probably pick up Avid in the next year or two. I've been trying to decide what program to get for home and have pretty much have decided to go with Vegas.
I am currently running the trial version of V5 at home and have been very happy with it's power and ease of use. I pretty much just sat down and started editing - barely looked at the manual. The hardest thing in the beginning was doing a simple dissolve! I couldn't understand why I had the option of 20 some different "fancy" dissolves, and no regular cross-fade. Obviously I was making things too difficult when I found out you just overlap the clips. LOL! Same went for a fade up from black when I added solid black to the timeline and did a dissolve to my first clip. Doh! It's almost too easy to use.
I've pretty much ruled out Premiere. I also considered Final Cut, but that means a whole new computer too. Not sure if I am ready to go there, since I just spent $5K on this one a year ago. Now it's just a matter of do I get Vegas 5 in a couple weeks when my trial is up, or wait for 6???
Thanks for the link Buster. I'll check it out. Yes, I commute to Stamford. I live in Ossining. I was born in NYC, grew up in Yonkers most of my life and moved to White Plains when I got married before buying a house in Ossining a couple years ago. Commute is about the same time wise (just a little quicker) to Stamford as it was to BV in NYC - just driving instead of Metro North.
Sorry for the delay in response, but I'm at work so I try and get some net time in between edits.
Cut off for free updates is for product purchaced on or after March 18, 2005, I would guess the anouncment is going to be the 18th of April 2005.
Best Wishes,
Marty
So that woould mean that users of VEGAS 5 in different countrys ( like here in Australia ) have missed out on a free upgrade and users that have been loyal to the software fro longer than a year also have to shell out ?
We've put together some pretty aggressive promotions to move out our Vegas5 inventory.
Sony Vegas 5+DVD $599.95 after Videoguys Instatn Rebate Coupon #VEGAS25OFF
FREE Class On Demand Vegas Training DVDs (DVD Workshop & Vegas 5 Update) http://www.videoguys.com/vegasvideo.html
Plus, you'll get teh free upgrade to the new version directly from Sony.
I don't think Sony sells software or upgrades off the floor at NAB. There will be some dealers there (Videoguys does NOT have a booth) who may have Vegas 5 inventory available, but no one will have Vegas 6 in retail packaging.
The free upgrade for folks who buy Vegas 5 now is typically an electronic download.
If I get Vegas 5 now, any chance there will be an option from Sony for a 6 upgrade on a CD? I have dial-up at home (I know, but I hardly use the net at home) and could never download a upgrade at that speed.
Every upgrade, for about the first month, you get $100 off the normal price. So, the $299 Vegas to Vegas 5 + DVD would of cost me $199 last year, not $299. That's what I'm talking about.
NYSubway18: I've got a dialup that goes at a max of 26.4k (normally I get 3Kbs download speed). Use a download manager, or, download it over night. 30mb should take ~ 6-7 hours. I normally download ~300mb a month. :)
I think what it means is that if you have bought Vegas 5 30 days prior to the VEGAS 6 rollout date you will receive a free upgrade, if the rollout for your area is in June 1, 2005 I think you would get a free upgrade as long as you bougth it after May 1, 2005.
I have been in touch with Josh Dodge about these issues of late so I thinki this information is good.
Chris, someone else could always download the software for you and mail you a CD. All you really need to obtain for yourself is your own license key and the email that contains that is about 2KB.
Videoguys - can you comment on if it's cheaper to buy Vegas 5+DVD now at $599 or wait and just buy Vegas 6+DVD when it hits at NAB 2005? A FCP budy of mine is thinking about another PC workstation and learning to love Vegas... and yes, I'm dragging him to the Vegas booth at NAB.
