Relink pre-rendered files??

For some reason I keep losing the pre-rendered files from my projects, although they remain in the pre-rendered folder (a named folder on an outboard Firewire drive). Why I'm losing them is a subject for another query.
What I'd like to know is - is there any way to "relink" the pre-renders to the active project?

I was about to ask the same thing. I make one dinky little change (Color Balance), and lose an hour of pre-renders that I made at various times using Print Video to DV tape. What happens? I can understand losing that prerendered portion DIRECTLY affected, but an hour down the line? In both directions, sometimes, one direction, most of the time.

Yes, I would like to know the same thing. Would be a real time saver if the program would always access prerendered files which are OK.

If, after prerendering the project, you apply a filter to a single event, a new prerender will need to be done for the duration of that changed event only. If you apply the filter to a track, the entire project would need to be prerendered (no matter how you keyframed it).

Unfortunately, that doesn't seem to be what is happening. I have found on rare occasions that by changing an existing filter which affects only one clip, that when I exit the edit, and can see the timeline again, that all prerenders including the one edited and all following have lost their little marker lines above the timeline indicating that they have been rendered. If I notice this before I save it is OK, since I can dump the session and go back to a saved one which still thinks it is prerendered. If I don't notice it in time, it is a royal pain to have to re-pre.

That's precisely what I'm talking about. You should be able to "relink" the pre-renders that have not been affected.
I've given up pre-rendering and now break my shows into littler pieces 15 to 30 seconds in length which I render into "New tracks". These I keep at the top level of the timeline. I replace them (and little parts of them), as needed, (a new title, a 10 frame dissolve lengthened to 15 frames, etc).
It makes a smoother running show, and at the end of the whole affair, rendering the final show is not an overnight affair.
I don't think I'm losing too much in the way of resolution... let's face it, it's still a basically digital environment.
If someone KNOWS the truth about this, I'd sure like to know.
Or... better... if someone knows how to relink the pre-renders, it sure is easier than to have to define these little pieces.
