Known issues.... In remove programmes, remove usb driver for HandyCam.....except add/remove programme will remove the whole programme or am I doing it wrong and missing something? Any help would be good.

First, tell us the model number of your HandyCam, we'll be able to better help you with that.

I take it you were able to capture video on your old computer with the same cam, right?

When you connect the cam to the computer with the USB cable, does the computer see it connected?

What program is being removed?

You didn't say what kind of footage, what camera, what capture method, what capture program, etc., etc.,

Sorry for lack of info.
Cam= Digital HandyCam
Model=DCR-TRV14E

My last puter was using XP and Vegas Studio Ver:9. I have now upgraded the puter as explained, but my OS is Windows7 64bit. I have upgraded to Vegas Studio 10. The problem is listed as Known Issues within the Install notes.

I connect using sony iwire (firewire) and no, the software doesn't even see the camera.

In Known Issues it tells use to remove the driver for that cam and that on a restart windows should pick it up. In Add/Remove Progs I can only remove the whole programme, or can I ?

Sorry my temper was getting the better of me.

Widows7, Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 10.0 (build 179)
Sony Digital HandyCam DCR-TRV14E

Thought I was doing the right things, faster puter, latest OS, and Latest Sony Software :( not so down to earth with a big THUD.

Is the cam in VCR/playback mode?

Does the "puter" see the cam? Go into Device Manager and see if you see it there. My Computer > Manage > Devices (XP way). It should be listed as an Imaging Device.

We have to make sure the puter sees the cam first before moving on to VMS.

Then something is going on with your Firewire connection. Either the cam itself, the cable or the PC. You'll have to follow a process of elimination to see which is the problem. Since the PC is the only new item, I'd start there.

Do you have your old PC or another PC you can check the cable and cam with? Take them to the store you got your new PC and and try them there.
