Remove media from event?

I have Vegas 5.

I have an event with media on my timeline. I'd like to keep the event (retain the time, FX info) but remove the media from that event (essentially returning the event to an Empty Event).

Can I do this and if so how.

P.S. I guess I could just add another piece of media as a take and then choose between the takes but I'd rather not do it this way.

Add a piece of generated media as a take/slug. It will retain everything that's there.
Otherwise, you'd have no event there, and there would be no container for the FX, right?
Delete the media you want to delete once you have a generated media slug there. Then you'll eventually (I assume) replace the slug with new media?
