Greetings.
I'm making a lot of voice recording (classes in university) using MP3 player/recorder IRiver 390T. There is a relatively loud noise from air condition In one of the class rooms. Because of this my recording getting background noise :-(
Is it any way to remove it using Sonic Foundry Sound Forge 6? I'm not professional in sound processing so I don't know what settings to use for this process. Could somebody help me with this?

Thanks,
Alex

The best thing to get in addition to Sound Forge is the DX plugin by Sonic Foundry/Sony called "Noise Reduction DX v2.0" This is ideal for removing background noise that is constant, like tape hiss, and air conditioners.

The best thing you can try without getting that plugin is to use some EQ in Sound Forge. For airconditioner noise I would try a low-pass filter with a starting frequency around 80-100Hz, and reduce by -10 to -20dB. Raise the frequency until you notice it reducing the audio you want to keep.

I am a studio musician, however I also have an air-conditioning / construction company. I have built recording studios, just a suggestion, you can use flex ductwork for a supply air to your recording room. The trick is, use three times the length of ductwork you need to reach the outlet. Run it in a snake patern "not straight" this will for the most part cut the static pressure noise you are hearing, good luck!
