Removing Extraneous Space at End of Video

On several projects the "end" of the project is quite a ways after the end of the last event. For example, the video ends at 4 minutes, but when I press the "End" key or when I compress the timeline to show the entire project, the end is around 7 or 8 minutes (with no events in the last 3-4 minutes).

The problem with this is that when I render, it runs the full length and leaves a long dead space at the end of the rendered video.

I likely had some events out at the 7-8 minute mark during early editing. I assume this "set" the end mark. But there is nothing there now, and it is still set out at that time. I have tried time selection and deleting, but no effect.

So, how do you set the "end" of the project back to the end of the actual video?

Thanks.

Are you sure there is nothing there? the reason I ask is coz I had the same problem in a vid...kept playing well after "my edit" was complete...anyways, it turned out there was a stray frame (yea, just 1 frame) left on the timeline and of course, the render went right upto that stray frame...

Just to make sure, zoom way in on the timeline and check there is in fact nothing there. Alternatively, if the mystery continues, select a loop region on your timeline covering the vid as you want it and render that region only: at least you'll get what you're after! then carry on investigating if need be...

Paul.

Rightclick the line above the upper track and select Set selection to project. Then you'll see how long Vegas thinks your project is. You can then render and select Render loop region only. Or if there is more than you want - edit it.

You should also be able to select a loop region from what you think is the end of the project to what Vegas things the end is (perhaps go a bit beyond that for good measure) and then press the Delete key. This will delete any events in that region, which should then leave you with no events after what you think is the end.

"Ctrl+End" takes you to the end of the project, just "End" takes you to the right of the current view.

I don't think it should render past the end of the last clip on the timeline period - could you be accidentally setting a loop selection? As TorS wrote I think, can set the loop yourself, make sure it's checked on the render as dialog, or not checked/grayed out if you haven't explicitly set one.
