It's called a ripple edit. You can do it by enabling the Auto Ripple icon on the toolbar, going Edit > Post Edit Ripple or by doing CTRL-Shift F.
Be aware that there are 3 different settings to choose from. CTRL-Shift F ripples everything (all tracks, markers & regions).
I use the latter myself most of the time as I've gotten into too much trouble leaving Auto Ripple on all the time.

If you have a gap in the timeline, double-click on it to select it, press Delete, then run the ripple delete with the option to move all tracks, regions, markers, etc. The keystrokes are Ctrl+Shift+F.

Buddy, thanks for catching my error on the keystoke combo for post edit ripple.
I edited my post to reflect it.

Turned ripple on, trimmed event, everything but one envelope moved. Much better now. Thanks!

I must agree with RS170a about the Ripple Effect button.

I have removed if from my taskbar entirely, after having one or two mishaps with it - can't remember the details anymore, but somehow (perhaps it was inadvertantly clicked??) - it wreaked havoc on me and I turned it off in a fury.

I love ripple (especially in concert with "Select a region" the "Delete" then "RIPPLE")- use it all the time - but I do it by CTRL+SHIFT+F, as well.

So, I'd say, if you've done your ripple - turn off the button.

best,

I go back in forth using the ripple feature. Some times I forget to turn it on and off and things seem to go ways that I didn't intent. No matter the computer only does what the opperator tells it to do. Thank heavens for undo. As often as I use this feature on and off I wish there was and easier short cut then CTRL+SHIFT+F or even finding the icon above. Is there a way to create short cuts for personal preference in Vegas6?

Sure:
Options | Preferences | Keyboard

I've reset my keyboard so "Ripple All" is the "F" key in Track View. I use it all the time that way, and it's much, much safer than turning on "Auto Ripple."
