You lost me... what are you wanting to do? Can't quite figure it out. Please give more detail.

Hello Liam .. . You aren't alone .. !

Ok, I got Scene Detected clips that go from MyVidDate Tape1 - Clip 001 . . . to . . . MyVidDate Tape1 - 097.

I want to rename them with something a bit more "useful" like MyVidDate Downtown on selected clips from 001 to say 020. Then, MyVidDate Uptown on selected clips from 021 - 097.

Now, when I was in AdvVidCap I could NAME a series of clips in the way I explained above - yes it did entail naming a section for batch capturing and it works and its mostly intuitive too. But recognising the strain I could be puting on tape and deck heads, I now capture a whole tape at a time. I DO get an option to rename, but I can't elect to re-name a series . .within that scene detect capture session OR within Media Pool.

TIA

Grazie

If it's not possible in Vegas, there are various shareware programs that help you do bulk renaming of files. I used one for sorting a mass of Acid loops that I had mis-titled. Unfortunately, I'm not at home so I'll have to post the details later but Google will probably reveal loads of others anyway.

Cheers

Grazie,
This one was just mentioned in a post a few days ago. I love it, works great!

Thanks Guys! . . However, I got this feeling that if you can't DO something from within Vegas, then there is most likely a jolly good reason .. not to do it!

Thanks again,

Nahhhh. It's good to do. It's just that Vegas, at this point, is an NLE and not a media manager ... yet. Just guessing here, but i think we'll probably see something like ACID's new media manager in the next version of Vegas.

Isn't there a bit of an issue. If you have a project with clips in it and close the project and rename them thne whne you reopen the project Vegas has a hissy spit cause it can't find the clips?

Well, true. But, shouldn't one be doing the renaming stuff before starting a project? The purpose of the renaming is to make it easier to sort through the files and find what you want. Presumably if you've already got a project going, then you're already past that stage. In order for bulk renaming to be of much value it would have to happen before you've got much on the timeline.

Here's my point, Chaps, I'm weaning myself off AdvVidCap - we all know why, and I'm now capturing a whole tape at a time and using scene detect to break stuff into clips - don't ask! - Now when fininshing the actual capturing I get a chance to Rename clips. However we can only rename the whole lot. I was looking for a way to rename collections of clips IN TIHS SAME SAME RENAME WINDOW. But nooooooo...... ok ..

Any ideas?

Well....

There are lots of ways. If you do it within vidcap then I'd say make sure not to bother with automatically adding the new clips to the timeline. Vidcap follows the same keboard shortcut as windows explorer and Vegas media pool-press <F2> to make the file name editable.

As everyone else has said, there's plenty of freeware for this. Generally, I like to look at Nonags.com because it's all freeware-no adware allowed.

I'm afraid you're looking at a litte manual labor whichever way you go.

Hi Grazie if you make sure Vegas is closed, open the folder where the clips are, select/highlight the ones you wish to re-name.

Rename them , eg the_house(1).AVI the number in brackets will number them all numerically and you must remember to add the AVI as well
