Render 640x480 MJPEG to 730x480 DV NTSC AVI?

This question is elementary, but I can't find a post that spells it out for me:
I capture 640x480 AVI MJPEG analog video (Pinnacle Studio DC10+ - don't laugh) and edit it within VV3 with no problem. But when I render the DV NTSC default template, which I believe is 730(?)x480, the resulting file is of very good quality but it's stretched horizontally (people look chubby and squat). This makes sense to me.
As far as I can tell there's no way to render the project to using the DV NTSC codec at the same 640x480 pixel ratio as the source material. Am I right? Is there a way to create a custom template to render 640x480 MJPEG to 640x480 DV NTSC AVI? Or do I have to use a analog-to-digital converter (like the Canopus ADVC-100) to capture the footage at a 730x480 format to begin with?
I'd love a helpful definitive answer before I plunk down 350 bucks for a Firewire card and the A/D converter. Know what I mean?

Thanks for anyone's help.

The video will only be stretched if you are going to watch it on the computer. If you output to a Digital Camera, the aspect will be corrected.

740 x 480 is the Standard for DV NTSC and cannot be changed.

Are you converting to DV NTSC to output to a firewire digital camera, or are you trying to output on the DC10plus? (I have the DC10plus and firewire, the DC10plus is a good product for the money, so I don't think anyone will laugh).

No, I don't have a digital camera, I'm just trying to find a way to view the render file as it truly appears. Can I do that using the DC10 card and/or a firewire card? If so, how? Basically, I want to archive these projects as DV AVI files, but when I finally get a DV cam to view them, I don't want to find out that they are distorted horizonally. I am I making sense?

Thanks, Dan

They will be fine when you output to DV camera. I believe on VV you can rightclick on the preview monitor and change to Square Pixels. This will give you a better 4 x 3 aspect picture.

You can only output through the DC10plus card if it is still a MJPEG file. But since you converted to a DV file, this won't help.

Thanks for your prompt and helpful info, Dave T2!
I'll try that right-clicking tip.

I'm not sure if this will work or not, but it's worht a try. When you render, there should be a check box to stretch to fill the frame. I'm not in front of a system with VV on it, so I can't be sure the exact wording. Anyway, make sure it is set so it does not stretch. I have not tried this with a 640x480 clip, but it seams logical that this would work. FYI - If you do this, you will get black bars on the left and right. You should not see them when viewing on a TV, but you will if viewing on a computer.
