Render a VOB from the time line, diminish quality?

I have a question about editing the VOB on the time line and then rendering the project using MPEG2, DVD render setting. Does Vegas go into a smart render mode and detect that we're already and MPEG2 DVD and just render the edited changes or is the entire project re-rendered?

Essentially my question is video quality diminished when editing/rendering VOB projects?

It will re-render the whole thing and you will lose quite a bit of quality going from VOB (MPEG) to MPEG.

Use TMPGEnc's tools to cut the MPEG files. They will not be re-rendered.

Womble makes two tools, but they cost money, that will edit MPEG files without re-rendering.

Hopefully Sony will have listened to the dozens of requests for this feature and include it in the next release.

Solutions...It won't help you on your current project but always try to save the source tapes or the AVI file if you think you might need to go back and re-edit later.
