I'm not really sure what you're saying, asa.

What format were the files you imported to compose your project? Were they NTSC-DV AVIs or MJPEG AVIs? Something else?

What settings did you use for your MS3 project when you started it? The default setting is NTSC-DV AVI.

I'm really not sure what Quicktime has to do with MS3 unless you've got something going here that you haven't clearly described.

Can you give us a little more detail?

I get the feeling that the source files are QuickTime, or that there was an intermediate render to QuickTime. In any case, it would appear that the material is in QuickTime format now. The only way to open them is to get the QuickTime player software and do a complete install including all authoring components.

Raw footage from my camcorder(mini-DV) was used into the program media files. I also imported a song from a CD. In this case I should be able to open the project and "render as", anything I want.

That is correct.
The raw footage would be in AVI and when you are done with the editing, you can render the file in any of the formats that Movie Studio offer.
If you want to use the file for DVD, MPEG2 is the format.
