Render as AVI+AC-3 / MPEG2+AC-3

This may be a newbie and silly question but does anyone know how to encode an AVI or MPEG2 file along with the AC-3 (using Vegas)????
Please note that for the MPEG2 I'm not talking about encoding NTSC video stream and the AC-3 as though I would use these files with DVDA. Is that possible? I have Lightwave and use it to render some scenes. I want to encode those scenes (originally Targa) as AVi or MPEG2+AC-3 with Vegas and convert them later as Xvid or Divx in order to share them with other "lightwavers" at Newtek's forum. Help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I'm having a hard time understanding what you want to do. If you want to create a DVD, you render to MPEG-2 and AC-3, but I think you know that. If you later want to render to some other format, like Divx, etc., then it is best to render to AVI (usually using the DV codec, but you can use Huffyuv or something else), store that file, and when you want to render to something else, use that file as the starting point.

avi with ac3 - means you render each out separate and multiplex them in virtualdub, you can even have ac3 files with DV if you want ..

for mpeg =- same idea , render each out separate and multiplex with a multiplexer

I'm very sorry to have replied so late (I'm becoming more and more a VideoHelper addict - lol). That's it, B JM. What else would I say? And we could add here that this AVI, being a container, can be an uncompressed file, an Xvid or even a DivX...hey, I don't wanna start a war here - lol
Thanks to all.
