I am getting an error when I try to render as Windows Media with the error code 0xc00d0bc2 (error with the codec it seems). I have service pack 1 installed for XP and I cannot uninstall it since I chose not to backup files during installation :(
Is there going to be a patch available soon or what should I do?
Thanks
Tony

Same problem Here.
1) Clean installation of Windows XP SP1 (Integrated) Spanish
2) Windows media player 9 not installed
3) PIII 600mhz (it's slow, but never had this problem before), GeForce2 GTS.
I as well installed SP1 and had numerous problems .... you can uninstall SP1 by "repairing" XP ,,,, Place your XP CD in the CDrom ,, reboot your computer,, Boot from the CD (you only have 3 seconds to do this when you see the boot question) ,,, XP will give you some options ,,, you will want to Repair from the XP cd ,,, BUT ,,, do not repair from the first screen ,,,Click Continue and XP will install some files ,,, Then it will ask again what you want ,,, at this point click Repair and XP will reinstall without SP1 ,,, By the way ,,,, since these problems have occured since you installed SP1 ,,, Microsoft will support your problem ,,, NO CHARGE ,,,,
Using my Web Access/Beta testing PC, I went ahead and did an install of Win XP HOME from the original CD(10 months old), followed by a few updates from the MS XP update site. It is now a dual boot 98SE / XP Home machine.......just for fun.
MS had no objection to me activating/registering it on this machine, even though it is installed on my MAIN machine as well(soon to have a fresh XP Pro install).
I installed SP-1, using the option of backing up current files, with ability to uninstall.
I then did a demo install of VV3.0c and AcidPro 4.0a. Both apps had lost the ability to render to WMV. Nothing listed under file formats, went ahead with render attempt anyway only to recieve same erreor message as Tony..."An error occured while creating media file Untitled.wmv. Error 0xc00dobc2(message missing).
Uninstalling SP-1, a window listing the app's I installed after SP1 came up, warning that these app's may not function properly if SP1 is uninstalled.
After uninstalling SP1 & reboot. I opened VV and attempted a .wmv render. The error message: "This application failed to start because WMVCore2.DLL was not found." Reinstalling the application may fix it."
A repair install was no good, but a complete uninstall/reinstall got everything back to normal.
The last 2 digits of the WMP version number changed from 77 to 87 after the SP1 install.
This was just a test.
That was fun.
I don't know if this is important or not, but I get the same error when trying to save as WMV in SoundForge 6.0b with XP SP1. I was trying different things and found that.
Hope that helps.
Bye!!!
.....same machine, decided to go ahead with a final install of SP-1, after uninstalling it yesterday. The WMV render options are now showing up in the demo SoFo app's after the "reinstall" of SP-1.
Interesting, I installed SPI yesterday and have no problems at all with WMV renders or any other kind problem. I'm still using Media Player 8.
I used the "express option" to install SPI and it proceeded to install over 40 MB worth of upgrades! I also went the backup route, just in case, which is another option you can pick if you download the service pack off the web.
I'm currious why SPI was SO LARGE, since I've been using the automatic update to keep Windows XP current and Microsoft claims it only downloads what it needs. That's some patch if true! I didn't and sit and watch the whole download, but SPI does display what its upgrading as it does it and it seems it updated hundreds of files.
I'm having a slightly different problem with rendering to WMV after installing XP SP1. Basically, when I click on "custom," there are no options available in the picklists. You can't select bitrates or anything.
yirm,
That's actually what I meant.....custom settings...nothing listed. 1st attempt they were missing, uninstall/reinstall they came back.
BillyBoy,
Maybe that's the way to go on the SP1 install! I tried that on a 56K, it said I needed about 30 some odd MB, but I STILL got bumped off their server. Had a friend DL the whole thing and burn to CD. Another funny thing, and I believe this was mentioned on the other thread w/similar topic, seems not everything got installed on the 1st attempt. I had gone back to the update site to see what would "show up". It listed about 14 items in the "recommended updates"(understandable, since those were listed before I SP1'd), I didn't bother DL'ing those after SP1 either, BUT after the uninstall/reinstall and return to the update site - it only listed 4 items. Wierd!
This was a fresh install of XP Home after a reformat, so I had the WMP 8 as well.
So, maybe those who are missing any WMV options can perhaps do another SP1 install on top the other.......3rd times a charm?
I'll try this on the other machine tonight. It has WMP 9 + the WMEncoder beta's.
I get crashes on WMP 9 about half way thru a DVD or during playback of mp3's using the NEW visualizations included(after about 4 or more tunes).
