Render for my first DVD

Hello all...I have a newbie ? for the forum. I am about to render my first project in Vegas 5 (it is approx 1hr and 5 mins in length) as a Main Concept MPEG2 using the DVD Architect video stream. After the render is complete I plan to use DVDA2 to burn the project..

My concerns are:

1. Do I render without audio and if so why? (I read this somewhere)
2. If I do render without audio just how do I render the audio later?
3. What happens if I render with audio?

Once rendered I don't plan to have any menus just the movie, I hope I the process is not to painful...I await any advice the forum can give. Thanks in advance.

First, encapsule the area on the timeline you need to render. Then go to render tab. Choose AC3. This will render your sound for the DVD. Specify a file for it to go to. (later you will learn how to tweak AC3's, if you want.) Then render the same exact area, except choose for Mainconcept mpg2. Place in same file as AC3. Now you're ready for DVD. Go to DVDA and right click on the screen(under 'main menu') and choose 'import media', find your file with both the mpg and AC3 and just click on the mpg, it will bring both in. Now click 'preview' and watch to make sure both sound and video are okay. Make your DVD. (technically, this has a simple menu, so when you put DVD in you'll have to push 'enter' on your remote.) You can change the 'main menu' writing or delete it. If you don't want to render separate files, you can render your mpg with sound and let DVDA change it to AC3, but it's better to learn to do it the way I described above. The AC3 render just takes a couple of minutes and the mpg2 is about 4 to 8 times longer than the video is. (this depends on your computer and how many effects and changes you've made.) The main thing I want to be sure you do is: Write down the exact frame # where the video starts and ends, so if you have to fix either audio or video, you can go back. Also, try to include 3 seconds of silence before and after timeline section, as AC3 uses this silence to set itself. Just drop the volume line down to nothing at the beginning and end of section using a volume envelope. (right click on audio track until darker and go to insert, audio, volume. A blue line will appear down middle of audio track. Add 'points' to beginning and end of section and drag blue line down to bottom of track outside of section.) Good luck and I hope I didn't make this too confusing.
